Magnus on the Shannon-C

Dimension : 8 ft X 4 ft
Medium: Oil on Marine Plywood

Magnus, Alex's youngest son has done a number of things in his life including being a professional motorcycle racer, riding for Suzuki GB in a support race traveling the globe with the World Superbikes. When his career ended due to injury he had a simple job in a bicycle shop but after a chance trip on a small fishing boat, he decided to quit his job. In under a month, he was now a commercial fisherman, heading out on the high sea with no previous experience. Alex not only helped Magnus get started but used to go out on the fishing boat with him. Magnus went on to found two fish merchants but Alex loved his time on the boat and panted this fantastic peace.

It shows Magnus standing at the front of the boat looking back, on the left and some on the right you will see the seagulls that were ever present when the boat was fishing, always looking for tit-bits.

At the bottom left side, you can make out the eyes of the brown crab that they were fishing for, amongst other species. The catch was all destined for high end restaurants in the UK, Europe and even Hong Kong.

Magnus' left hand (on the right of the painting) is resting on the rope that would pull up the creels/lobster-pots from the icy depths. His right hand (on the left of the painting) almost out of sight is on the throttle that needed to be controlled at the same time to pull the catch up.

On the top of the picture you will see the life ring with the embossed SR96 (the boat's registration number) and requirement by law in the UK.

If you look closer you will see all sorts of other things including floats, ropes, ultrasound, radio and much more but I will let you enjoy the painting and discover for yourself.
