Heck and Tommy

Hector (Heck) used to be a neighbour of Alex, he was a nice guy, but older with no structure in his life apart from Tommy the horse. Tommy kept Heck going long after his natural life by organizing his day. This sounds like an elaborate story but I think the best way to look at this is a legend. Without Tommy, Heck would have done nothing througout the day but every morning the horse would go up to the house and make noise outside till Heck stumbled out and held on to Tommy’s mane. Heck would then take about 2 hours struggling to tack up the horse and Tommy would be away with Heck little clutching on to the reigns. At the end of the day Tommy the horse would lead Heck back to the house and the whole thing would start again the next day.

When Hector Rose was on his deathbed he asked Alex’s then wife to find someone to look after Tommy and in return they could get his modest very run down croft and house. Alex would stop every night on his way home from work and look at Tommy and give him a pat and a bit of company. 45 years later Alex was thinking about this time and decided to do one of his biggest oil paintings of Hector Rose and Tommy the horse working in the field.

This painting took Alex almost 5 years to complete. It is truly a magnificent painting that has amazing colors and hidden text in it. In the back ground there are stories that were told at this time so it is really a painting within paintings.
