Charly Fraser owned a Garage near to Alex’ house and the car that he had at that time was always breaking down so he got to know Charly and his two sons that worked in the garage. As this was 45 years ago, in rural parts of the Scottish highlands, the garage was not like a garage today where if you needed anything fixed you would take it down there. For example, at that time most houses there didn’t have power and people had radios that needed batteries so you would take them down to Fraser’s & Son garage to get charged up.

This is another life size portrait painting that Alex took 3 years to complete.

Charly ended up having multiple garages and farms, this mindset of diversifying your business constantly served him well at that time but Charly did not let that affect him as money was kept under the mattress ready for the next investment opportunity. Charly always wore old ripped clothes and if anything was broken it wasn’t replaced it was fixed. His glasses were fixed with a plaster, his boots had a new sole made out of an old tyre tacked on and his watch strap was fixed with wire, he was truly a one of a kind and although some people might laugh at his lifestyle, if there were more people like that now then maybe the resources of the world would be under lest strain.
